They still aren’t being specific but I do have more info.
They removed my auction for a black cat bone pendant, sending the following form letter, which looks like it’s the form letter for “spells.” This is despite the fact that the auction was for a tangible item and that I have other listings sayings I will pray for buyer’s intent at no extra charge. I suspect that they scan item listings and titles for the keyword “spell” and that that is what caused this. I would honestly be surprised if any person or machine actually read the whole listing. They have not removed any of my new condition oil listings (yet), though I have no faith that they won’t at any second, citing whatever ill-fitting reason they choose. From previous experience, I can guarantee that if I call and write them I will get no further clarity (I’ll get my intelligence insulted or else I’ll be ignored). Other eBayers should, I think, pay special attention to this line: “This applies to listings that are violating the intent of eBay policies (e.g., listings with physical items with non-physical claims and promises).” [emphasis mine]
Note that my listing was full of disclaimers like “sold as curio only” and “historically valued for” etc. Combining that with “we reserve the right to make judgment calls,” this reads like carte blanche for them to end any listing they please, so I am still maintaining that both buyers and sellers should be prepared to have *anything* metaphysical yanked at any time. Looks like I got one freebie, but subsequent violations will result in censure/suspension.

Unfortunately, we had to remove your listing because this item isn’t allowed on eBay. This applies to listings that are violating the intent of eBay policies (e.g., listings with physical items with non-physical claims and promises). We reserve the right to make judgments about whether these types of items are appropriate.
