Three Kings – a few more candles available + soap

Three Kings votive candles. These sold quickly, so I am making one more batch – then there’s no Epiphany frankincense left until I make a new batch in January. Like my Three Kings Oil, quantities are limited; read more about the tradition and about the formula at the web shop.

I’ve got a fresh batch of Three Kings soap too, which will be finished curing by the end of the week (2 oz bars here). I’ve learned the hard way that putting actual bits of frankincense and myrrh into soap doesn’t actually work all that well, so I make this with my Three Kings oil and cosmetic grade gold and bronze dust, and then I cense the bars in Three Kings incense while blessing them on my altars.

new limited edition soaps and candles for the holiday season

Gold Rush handcrafted bar soap. A burst of sunshine in your daily bath, this handcrafted hoodoo soap is made in tiny batches and then blessed on my altars. Containing herbs and oils valued in traditional hoodoo rootwork for money- and luck-drawing, it includes soothing and gentle chamomile as well as golden calendula petals embedded into the bar. Each bar is finished with a light sprinkling of cosmetic-grade 24K gold mica powder before being blessed on my altars and set to cure. This large, luxurious 5 oz bar makes a great gift, especially for somebody who needs a little hoodoo in their life but needs to keep it on the down-low. Or, pamper yourself and enjoy this gorgeous golden handcrafted soap that is kind to your skin *and* bursting with botanical ingredients valued for generations for their association with prosperity and abundance. These large bars are really large; I also have smaller, 2 oz bars that make great stocking stuffers or travel-size soaps.

Keep your eyes peeled – I’ll be posting a few more new formulas and items as well as some sales over the next few days and weeks. I will be switching up to a new storefront/shopping cart format in early 2014, and I’ll have a “please buy this stuff so I don’t have to inventory it” sale towards that end for limited edition and OOAK items.

Ketubah oil – This is a biblical anointing oil in the blessing family, containing rare and fragrant henna blossom essential oil among other appropriate oils and herbs. Use for altar work for marriage or engagement, to ritually seal covenants and agreements (either with yourself or between two or more people), and as a reminder of the union of the soul with the Spirit. Some folks use this as an anointing oil when they perform weddings and handfastings, or in spellwork related to their marriages or relationships.

Holy Fire oil – This is a biblical oil in the blessing family, containing hyssop among other appropriate herbs and oils.
Use for altar work for blessing, cleansing, and purging yourself of spiritual ickiness. I find this blend very useful when you’re facing one of those places in life where one door closes and another opens, to help you cut harmful ties to the past, make account of and restitution for things you are setting aside and leaving behind, and asking for guidance and blessing as you begin your new endeavor. This oil would be good to use when your divorce is final, when you finally break up with that irresistible bad boy or girl, when you decide to quit smoking, or when you begin a magical retreat or new spiritual practice.

Three Kings oil -If you’ve been reading my blog, you may recall that I continue my family’s old tradition of presenting the Infant Jesus with a little gold-covered casket of frankincense and myrrh at the Feast of the Epiphany. This oil is made with resins from January’s presentation ceremony. Each bottle contains a tiny bit of 24 kt gold dust as well. Use for altar work for money and success, for protection, and for healing and drawing blessings. This is one of those multi-purpose oils that no hoodoo cabinet should be without.

Remember that all my oils, powders, and baths are available from my website too, often at a substantial discount. If there’s not an operable cart for the page you want, just write me and I can send you a paypal invoice for the things you want.

ebay sale and Feast of the Ephiphany

I’ve put most of my one dram and half ounce oils on sale from now until January 6, so if you’ve had your eye on something, now is the time to get a good deal!

January 6 is the Feast of the Epiphany, also known as Three Kings Day in some traditions, and as Twelfth Night in others (remember the twelve days of Christmas?  January 6th is the 12th [depending on how your church does its math]).  This feast celebrates the arrival of the Three Wise Men or Kings at the stable where the Christ was born, when they gave him gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

The Feast of the Epiphany is a big deal in the Catholic Creole culture I grew up in on the Alabama/Mississippi border, an hour and a half from the Creole-drenched New Orleans; we never, ever took our Christmas trees down until January 6th.  In the moving statuary processions my great-grandmother used to have, the baby Jesus statue would make its way to the manger from across the living room over the course of Advent, stopping daily on some convenient coffee table, side table, or windowsill, and every day moved closer to his manger scene; then, between Christmas Eve and the Epiphany, the Three Kings statues would make *their* way across the living room toward the manger scene, to arrive on January 6th, at which point the statue of infant Jesus would be presented with a small wooden casket embellished with gold and containing frankincense and myrrh resin.  Then we burned that incense over the course of the year during prayer and when special blessings were needed.

My great-grandmother has been gone for twenty years now, but her daughters, granddaughters, and great-granddaughters keep that tradition alive, and her great-great-granddaughter is learning it as she grows up.  (Her favorite part of the season is still the chocolate in the Advent calendar, though – maybe when she’s older 🙂 )

Some vodouisants consider the Three Kings to be associated with Simbi.
